The worship ministry addresses several aspects of daily life in St. Paul's.  Select one of the links at the left for the area of the worship ministry you are interested in.

Lectors

What will I be doing? Lectors read the prayers of the people and the lessons from the Old Testament and the Epistle.

Is any special training required? Yes. Lectors will learn about the placement of the readings in the liturgy and how to read with distinction. There will be several training opportunities throughout the year. Watch The Herald and the church bulletin for those dates and times.

How much time will it take? Lectors typically serve one Sunday a month. The schedule is published quarterly, so you will know your assignments in advance.

I'm interested! Contact Linda Brown if you are interested in service as a lector for the 8:00 or 10:00 Sunday services or to find out when the next training session is scheduled.

Acolytes

What will I be doing? Acolyte ministry gives young people an opportunity to serve at the altar during Sunday services and at special services during the year. Beginning acolytes are torch bearers and carry the processional cross. Once acolytes have gained some experience, they are trained to serve at the altar, assisting the celebrant. The most important role of an acolyte is to work behind the scenes, assisting the clergy, to keep the church service running smoothly and efficiently. Becoming an acolyte is a great way for middle school and high school student members of the church to become active in the worship service.

Is any special training required? Yes. There will be several training opportunities throughout the year. Watch The Herald and the church bulletin for those dates and times.

How much time will it take? Acolytes typically serve one Sunday a month at the 10:00 service. The schedule is published quarterly, so you will know your assignments in advance.

I'm interested! Contact Gary Hobin to check for an opening in the acolyte corps or to find out when the next training session is scheduled.

Eucharistic Ministers & Visitors

What will I be doing? Eucharistic ministers, sometimes called chalice bearers, are members of the chancel party who assist with the distribution of the Sacrament. Eucharistic Visitors take the Sacrament to home bound or hospitalized parishioners.

Is any special training required? Yes. Eucharistic Ministers and Visitors are licensed by the diocese, upon recommendation of the Rector. The next training session for people who hope to become licensed Eucharistic Ministers/Visitors will be on Sunday 10/12/03, at 11:30. There will be other training opportunities throughout the year. Watch The Herald and the church bulletin for those dates and times.

How much time will it take? Eucharistic Ministers typically serve one Sunday a month. The schedule is published quarterly, so you will know your assignments in advance. The Eucharistic Visitation schedule varies.

I'm interested! Contact Linda Brown for information or to enroll for EM training.

Altar Guild

What will I be doing? The Altar Guild offers opportunities for performing a ministry for the Church, for fellowship, and for personal contemplative time. Guild members prepare the Altar for Sunday services, for the weekday Healing Service in the chapel, and for baptisms, weddings, and funerals. Members also deliver the altar flowers to homebound parishioners each week.

Is any special training required? Yes. About an hour of training is required to serve on the Altar Guild. Training is offered individually, so you may join the Guild at any time.

How much time will it take? There are three Altar Guild teams; each team serves for two weeks and then has four weeks off. During the two weeks of service, members give about two hours per week.

I'm interested! Contact JoAnne Jones.

Choir

St. Paul's choir welcomes anyone interested in singing, playing an instrument, or learning more about music. The choir sings anthems in a variety of styles at the 10 o'clock service and for other special services. Choir practice is on Tuesday evenings at 6:00 and on Sunday mornings at 9:30; the choir takes a summer break. Come to choir practice or contact music director Lester Dalton at the church office.

Ushers

Men and women are ushers at Sunday services and special services. Contact the church office to join.

Greeters

Greeters welcome worshipers each Sunday, particularly newcomers. Greeters answer their questions about our church and escort them to the coffee hour after the 10 o'clock service. There is no special training and volunteers are asked to give an hour each week they greet. Contact the church office.

Coffee Hours

Coffee hour is held in the parish hall after the 10 o'clock service every Sunday. These times provide an opportunity for parishioners to gather and for newcomers to meet and become acquainted with the parish family.

One or more individuals or families host each coffee hour, setting up tables, preparing the coffee, and preparing and setting out the food B from an egg casserole and fruit salad to store-bought doughnuts and juice. The time commitment is about an hour during the week you volunteer and you can volunteer once a year, once a month, as often as you choose.

I'm interested! Sign-up sheets are posted on the bulletin board in the parish hall.
